Emma Adams: A Helping Hand for Customers and Colleagues

Emma Adams first worked for us in a part-time capacity after earning an associate’s degree in sociology from the College of Lake County. At first, she didn’t see herself as a “business” person, but acknowledges that joining us full time as an Administrative Assistant in 2017 was the best thing that could have happened.

A Versatile Team Player

To her delight, Emma discovered that she was encouraged from the start to learn new skills and become much more than a “paper pusher.” The work involved various departments, so an idea of how we operate was already forming. This helped accelerate her learning curve. Within 3 months, she was already much more involved, communicating with customers, learning our MRP system and adding responsibilities. These now includecustomer service; fielding incoming calls; filing and organizing paperwork for training, quality and standards; attending job fairs and generally filling in anywhere someone needs a helping hand.

All Corners of the Shop

Projects take her to all corners of the shop every day and add to her information of how everything comes together. She can translate this knowledge into action plans while communicating with customers to resolve any issues they may be having. With the support of the company, Emma feels like she has only scratched the surface of what she can bring to the table.

Continuing Education

Originally planning to transfer to a 4-year college for an undergraduate degree in sociology, Emma’s focus has changed to classes in business at the College of Lake County. She has found that sociology and marketing mesh quite well and that previous studies have prepared her for the new direction. Comparing classroom lessons to real life on-the-job situations appeals to her. For example, a branding study on one of our major customers was featured in an assigned textbook. Emma is now planning on a marketing degree which she feels will help her become even more valuable to the company.

Rest & Relaxation

A self-described “home body,” Emma finds enjoyment in reading. Non-fiction is a favorite, since she finds the lessons of the past are still applicable to life today.

Emma also finds that practicing Ashtanga yoga 3-4 times a week for 20 minutes to an hour is both relaxing and energizing. She finds herself caught up in the rhythm as one pose flows into the next.

Her favorite travel spot is South California, with its combination of ocean and mountain views and warm breezes. A special treat is visiting family members there during the winter months.
